Five police officials have been suspended in connection with the raid on the residence of PTI leader Barrister Gohar

A Station House Officer (SHO) is among the five Islamabad police officials who have been indefinitely suspended in connection with the alleged raid on the residence of PTI leader Gohar Ali Khan.

After an initial inquiry into the police action at the lawyer’s house, five policemen, including the Margalla SHO, have been suspended until further notice. The suspended officials comprise sub-inspectors Haider Ali and Mansab Dar, constables Sajjad, Tahir, and lady official Shabana.

The Superintendent of Police (City) has been appointed as the inquiry officer, with a report requested within three days.

On Sunday, the Islamabad Police, through its official account, asserted that a “fact-finding inquiry” determined its team had gone to a residence in Sector F-7/2 of the capital on Saturday in pursuit of a proclaimed offender based on a tip-off. Upon discovering the house belonged to Barrister Gohar, the team purportedly promptly withdrew, as per the police statement.

The Chief Justice of Pakistan has summoned the Islamabad Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) and directed an investigation into the matter. CCPO Dr. Akbar Nasir Khan has assured the PTI leader that the issue will be thoroughly investigated, and departmental action will be taken if any police officer is found guilty.

On Saturday, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Barrister Gohar Ali Khan asserted that security forces conducted a raid at his residence in Islamabad. He alleged that during the raid, his son and nephew were subjected to rough treatment, and various documents and equipment were confiscated.

Barrister Gohar made these claims during a hearing at the Supreme Court, where the election commission’s appeal against the Peshawar High Court’s decision to permit the PTI to use its bat election symbol was being discussed.

While Barrister Ali Zafar was presenting his arguments, the PTI chairman informed the Chief Justice that he had just learned about the raid, where four vehicles had reportedly descended upon his home, resulting in his nephew being assaulted and the confiscation of all the documents.
